Meet Your Hosts

In 2005, Michael Brownlee and Lynette Marie Hanthorn co-founded an organization for relocalization in Boulder, which they have since operated under various structures and names as its focus and scope have evolved (Boulder Valley Relocalization, Boulder County Going Local, Transition Boulder County, Transition Colorado, Local Food Shift Group, and most recently Local Food Catalysts).

For more than a decade, the mission of this “organization” was to catalyze the localization of our food supply, initially beginning with Boulder County, and then moving to a regional/systemic focus that includes the entire Rocky Mountain region. The term “Local Food Shift” has become a catalytic meme that has outgrown the organization, now naming both a grassroots eater-driven movement and the emergence of a local food industry.

Together, they wrote and edited The Local Food Revolution: How Humanity Will Feed Itself in Uncertain Times, published by North Atlantic Books in 2016.

The main content of the Summit is organized, recorded, and curated by a team of Anchors who are themselves at the forefront of the local food revolution. Each of the Anchors has been chosen to serve as a convener for their respective areas of expertise.

Why the Local Food Summit?

The Summit CONNECTS YOU WITH THE THOUSANDS of people everywhere who have a deep intuitive or experiential sense of how important local food is, and want to be part of taking the movement to the next level.

We are mobilizing our communities around the overarching project of localizing our food supply as quickly as possible. This must now become our highest and most urgent priority.

Rather than a physical gathering, we're coming together in a virtual summit, online, making this the first national local food conference. This is a very efficient and COST-EFFECTIVE approach, bringing presenters and participants together without forcing them to travel.

Over a period of ten days in August, through a combination of recorded interviews and presentations, plus LIVE webinars with the speakers, you will have the extraordinary opportunity to hear from and interact with more than sixty of the most significant local food revolutionaries in the nation—all for FREE.

In addition, you can opt to access all of the Summit sessions in video and audio formats far beyond the August event, along with full transcripts, making it easy to study the rich content and even share it with those you care for.
